A Note From the Pastor
Central Baptist Church called me as its pastor in March, 2005.
My wife Kim, and our two children, Hannah and Jonah have been
blessed to be a part of such a loving and caring church family.
The unpredictable world that we live in leaves us exhausted,
alarmed, empty, and unsatisfied. In the midst of our
ever-changing society, people are looking for something
reliable and stable. At Central Baptist Church we will point you to
the one person that can bring peace and stability to your life,
Jesus Christ. Thank you for choosing to visit with us today. Your
presence has been a blessing in our worship service. If you
have any questions regarding the church, please feel free to
contact me at the church office. I would love to sit and share with
you the wonderful things that God is doing through our church
family.
Pointing People To Christ,
Bro. Paul
Pastor Shelton

In the summer of 1930, Claude Davidson and Paul Sizemore
arranged for Dr. J. Frank Norris, pastor of First Baptist Church of
Fort Worth, Texas, to hold a tent revival in Denton. The meeting led
to the organization of the Fundamental Baptist Tabernacle. In 1938
the Church name was changed to Central Baptist Church. The church
was located on Bolivar Street in downtown Denton. In 1950 the
Church played an important role in the formation of the Baptist Bible
Fellowship International by hosting the organizational meeting. In
1959 the Church moved to its present location at 2221 North Carroll
Blvd.
Central Baptist Church has been blessed to have many faithful men
of God as its Pastor. These men include: Reverends Crowley,
Bonner, Renfro, Peak, Johnston, and Bradley. In 1944 the Church
called Dr. Loys Vess as its pastor. Following Dr. Vess, Rev. Lester
Singleton was called in 1953. After 28 years of ministry, Bro.
Singleton retired and Central Baptist Church called six pastors over
the next 24 years. These included Rev. James Campbell (1981),
Rev. Alton Byrd (1983), Rev. Skip Bowman (1985), Rev. Ernest
Sigrest (1989), Rev. Brent Anderson (1990), Rev. Gary D. Cox
(1996), and in 2005 the church called our current pastor, Rev. Paul
Shelton.
